The Philippine Impulse Dancers were formed in early 2001 by a small group of dedicated dancers, their main aim being to enjoy themselves and please their audiences. The group is  registered as a Charitable Entity under the Charities act 2005 (CC27043) and is funded mainly by donations.  By the end of the first year they had performed at 14 venues all over Auckland. These were mainly private parties, church events or small cultural festivals. They also held a talent night at the end of the year to help raise funds to pay for costumes and accessories etc that proved to be very popular.

2002 saw a change in direction for the group as it was realised that the traditional Philippine dance numbers were becoming more popular with audiences both within and outside the Philippine community. They were invited to all of the major cultural festivals in the Auckland area and again proved very popular with dance numbers that are not often  seen in this Country. Traditional numbers now account for over 100% of the groups performances with the most popular being the bamboo dance “Tinikling” ,“Pandanggo Sa Ilaw” & “Sayaw Sa Bangko”.

2011 marks the 10th Anniversary of the group and we will be celebrating with some new dance numbers, and a new Patron, the Hon. Dr. Jonathan Coleman, Minister of Immigration.

The group has gone forward ever since its inception, and performs about 10-12 times per year. New numbers have been added each year and the repertoire now consists of 14 traditional numbers, including some never danced in this country before, with more to come.

Group members and supporters have made all costumes, and the colourful traditional costumes have drawn comments from audiences whenever they have performed.
